Massage therapy is more than a luxury—it's a valuable component of preventative care, performance maintenance, injury rehabilitation, and chronic condition management.
The muscular system accounts for approximately 60% of a horse's body weight and plays a critical role in movement, posture, balance, and athletic performance. When muscles become tight, fatigued, or dysfunctional, compensation patterns develop that can affect the entire body, increasing the risk of injury and limiting performance.
Massage therapy can help support healthy muscle function, improve mobility, and promote comfortable, efficient movement.

What Are The Benefits?
What Is Equine Massage Therapy?

Performance & Maintenance Care
Performance horses in regular work or competition place significant demands on their bodies. Routine massage therapy can be incorporated into a maintenance program to:
Improve flexibility and range of motion
Reduce muscle tension and post-exercise soreness
Aid recovery between training and competition
Address compensatory tension patterns
Support consistent performance throughout the season
Chronic Condition Support
Massage therapy can complement ongoing management for horses with chronic musculoskeletal or mobility concerns by addressing secondary muscle tension and compensation patterns.
Conditions may include:
Osteoarthritis
Kissing spine
Navicular syndrome
Sacroiliac dysfunction
Neurologic conditions affecting coordination or mobility
Long-term lameness or mobility challenges
Massage therapy is intended to complement, not replace, appropriate veterinary care.
Rehabilitation Support
Massage therapy may be incorporated into veterinarian-guided rehabilitation programs to address soft tissue tension and compensation associated with altered movement or periods of reduced activity.
It may be beneficial for horses recovering from:
Tendon or ligament injuries
Muscle strains
Other soft tissue injuries
Post-surgical recovery
Extended periods of stall rest
